Moving from WordPress to Webflow without losing your rankings

A platform move is the moment when most sites lose traffic, and almost always for avoidable reasons. Here is the process I follow to keep rankings safe.

1. Crawl and record everything first

Before touching the new build, crawl the current site and export every URL, title, description and heading. Pull the top pages from Search Console so you know which pages carry the most traffic.

2. Keep the content that ranks

Redesign the layout, but keep the text on pages that rank well unless there is a clear reason to change it. Large rewrites and a new platform at the same time make it hard to see what caused any drop.

3. Match URLs where you can

Webflow lets you set page and collection slugs. Keep important URLs the same. Where they must change, plan a redirect.

4. Build a complete 301 redirect map

Every old URL should point to the most relevant new page. Do not send everything to the homepage. Webflow handles 301 redirects in the site settings, and the full list can be imported in one go.

5. Carry over the technical details

  • Page titles and meta descriptions
  • Alt text on images
  • Structured data such as Organization, Service and Article schema
  • Canonical tags and a clean sitemap

6. Launch and watch closely

After launch, submit the new sitemap, check Search Console for crawl errors daily for two weeks and fix any missed redirects straight away. Small dips can happen while Google recrawls, but a careful migration usually recovers quickly and often improves thanks to faster pages.
