How much does a small business website cost in 2026?

A small business website in 2026 can cost anywhere from $99 to $5,000 or more. Where you land depends on how many pages you need, who writes the content, which platform you choose and whether the site has to sell, book or log people in. Here is how the price breaks down, so you can tell a fair quote from an inflated one.

Quick answer: typical price ranges

  • One-page website, from $99: a single page with your offer, services, reviews and a contact form. Ideal for new or local businesses.
  • Small business site, $200 to $500: three to five pages on Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or Webflow, with mobile layouts and basic SEO.
  • Custom marketing site, $500 to $2,500: a unique design, more pages, a blog or CMS, animation and full on-page SEO.
  • Online store or web app, $350 and up: priced by products, integrations and features rather than pages.

What actually changes the price

  • Number of unique layouts. Ten pages built from three templates cost far less than ten completely different pages.
  • Content. If you supply text and photos, the build is faster. If the designer writes your copy, budget for it.
  • Platform. Wix and Squarespace are quick to build and easy to edit. Webflow and WordPress give more design and SEO control. Custom code costs more upfront but has no platform fee.
  • Features. Bookings, payments, member areas, multiple languages and CRM connections all add time.
  • Migration. Moving an existing site means transferring content and setting up redirects so you keep your Google rankings.

The ongoing costs most quotes leave out

The build is a one-off cost, but every website has a few running costs. Plan for these from day one so there are no surprises.

  • Hosting or platform plan: paid monthly or yearly to Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify or your WordPress host.
  • Domain name: a small yearly fee.
  • Email: Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 if you want a branded inbox.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups, security checks and small edits. A care plan with me is $99 a month, or you can handle it yourself.

Cheap website vs expensive website: what is the real difference?

A cheap website is not automatically a bad one. A clear, fast one-page site with strong copy will win more enquiries than an expensive site nobody can find. The real difference is usually strategy: who the site is for, what action you want visitors to take, and whether the site is set up to be found on Google. Ask any designer how they will handle those three things before you compare prices.

How to get an accurate quote

Send a short list of the pages you need, two or three websites you like, and whether your content is ready. With that, a good designer can give you a fixed price and timeline within a day. Frequently asked questions

What is the average cost of a website for a small business?

Most small business websites cost between $200 and $2,500 to build, depending on pages, platform and features. A one-page site can start from $99.

Do I need to pay for a website every month?

Usually yes. Hosting or a platform plan and a domain are recurring costs, and many owners add a maintenance plan for updates and backups.

Which platform is cheapest for a small business website?

Wix and Squarespace are usually the quickest and cheapest to build on. A hand-coded page can be cheapest to run because it needs no platform plan.
